Question My spouse and I are traveling to Santorini in mid July and my wife would like to travel by ferry to Santorini and fly back to Athens. I am not sure that I want to be couped up in a hydrofoil for 4 hours or about the longer 8 hour plus ferries ( Blue Star Naros)wasting travel "beach time". Are the longer ferries worth the "greek experience" and can you explain the difference between the classes "economy class", " economy super" and "air seats lounge (1 - 5)" Thanks
Answer Yiasou Greg, thanks for the question,
Let me check on those 'classes' for you. these are fairly new and designed I am sure to take more $$$ from you. but I will check.
I would say that the overnite for you would be best out of Piraeus...getting into Santorini in the morning. Cabin with nights rest would be best and save some on the cost of a nites lodging elsewhere. Also beautiful on deck at nite, under the stars on the warm mid-summer Greek waters.
Otherwise I would take the morning 8-hour sail out of Piraeus...in July out on deck (which is where you WILL be).
Inside just doesn't hack it in July. The A/C on the ships is NOT that great. But you do save half on the fare compared to the Hydrofoil and you are correct...the ride can be clostrophobic and bumpy too at times.
Flying back ... Reserve the date NOW ! But it is a good idea.
