Question
QUESTION: Hi,
My family is looking to take a vacation to one of the Ionian Greek islands and we are looking to do it by camping in a tent. So i am wondering if you know of any good family campgrounds that would be pretty affordable? Thanks for any help

Ben

ANSWER: Yiasou Ben, thanks for the question,

From the Top down: Starting with CORFU.

in Eastern Corfu, within close proximity to a bus station linking you to the big city (Corfu town) there is the KARDA BEACH CAMPING ... Tent for 4 or 5 is 25E. Elect.is 4-eu, there is a  playground,mini-mart, showers, pool.
SITE: www.kardacamp.gr....check it out.

KEPHALONIA; Big island next to Ithakia. Loaded with history from the days of Odyseus to a recent Nikolous Cage movie setting near the eastern beach town of SAMI (Captain Corelli's Mandolin).  Gorgeous, stunning views in all directions...Less expensive then the above is the KARAVOMILOS BEACH CAMPING...15-min walk from town with the water on your right.  It is in a large field.  WEBSITE:
www.camping-karavomilos.gr  More places to visit then the above...BUT perhaps not quite as family oriented.

And the last but not least...ZANTE CAMPING. (ZAKYNTHOS) 1.5Km past Planos on Ampula beach. Quiet, amid flora and sands devoid of tourist footprints. Cafeteria, mini-mart,pool, car-rental ...to get there catch the Tsilivi bus fm town.   COST TO CAMP: 2-eu per tent, 3-eu per car.5-EU pp (tele:26950-61-710)...Children FREE ! Electricity FREE!

Those are your choices...good luck
Have a grand and safe trip

QUESTION: Hi Denny,

Thanks for your your advice. we will have our own vehicle when we go. Do you know if there is a ferry service to Zakynthos so that we would be able to have our vehicle on the island?

Answer
Hello again Ben,

Ferry service with vehicle-onboards is available out of KYLLINI...to get there head WEST to Patras in the Peleponesse and then keep going W/S/W to the end of the road...it is WAY WEST about 50-km past Patras.   Another route would be to go to PIRGOS (Near Olympia)and then head NNW.

Ferry service from Kyllini to Zakynthos is available ... about 5-per day between hours of 8AM & 9:45PM.  Trip over takes about an hour,  cost about 6-euro , think that your vehicle (depending on size)is an additional 6 or 7 euro.

There are 3-kiosks on the dock...the one on the right(facing the port entrance) is for Zakynthos.
