Question QUESTION: This is my first year trying to grow veg, my cauliflower have been doing really well, in pots as i have a very small paved garden, the white heads have started to grow but i have now noticed that they seem to be spreading out-not like a cauli should be at all. They are still small-about 1-2inches across. What am I doing wrong, what can I do??
ANSWER: Lisa:
Is the head spreading out or the leaves? It may be just growing, I can't quite picture what you mean. If the head appears to be opening up, it is time to pick the cauliflower.

QUESTION: It is the head opening up but it is still very small, Cauliflowers that you buy are much much bigger, these are only 2inches across at the most
Answer Well, maybe that plant was started to early and set fruit too soon to support it. They don't usually set second heads, and when they do they are very small, so I'd say that is a bad plant. It could be that the pot wasn't big enough to support it and it was unable to grow to full size. I don't think it will get any bigger.
