Growing Vegetables - tomatoes

Expert: Elyse Grau - 6/27/2009

Question
QUESTION: I have 3 tomato plants and 2 of them are droopy.  They are in 12" pots.  I feed them a tablespoon of food every 3 weeks.  They are in organic soil.  Husband over watered them i think.  How can I revive them to where they aren't droopy?

ANSWER: Nina:
Are the plants in the sun? what kind of food are you giving them? Is there a lot of stem in-between the sets of leaves, or are the leaves close together? How do the leaves look - color, shape, do they curl up at all? What are the high/low temperatures by you?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Not full sun because we have alot of trees.  the food is Pennington tomato and vegetable plant food.  The leaves aren't close together.  The leaves are dark green but the bottom leaves are a yellow colored.  They curl up at the bottoms.  the temperatures have been 100 the past 3 days.

Answer
Nina:
Sounds like they might not be getting enough sun, which is making them "leggy". Can you move them around during the day to catch more rays? right now they are probably better off in part shade with the temps so high - I doubt they have been over watered under these conditions. Bottom yellow leaves are nothing to worry about.
