Question
I desire to send letter size mail to Panajachel, Guatamala from the USA and am curious to determine what fees apply and how to address such correspondence. Also same question as to mail to USA from Panajachel Guatamala. I was in Panajachel in April 2009 and did not see any post offices.Also could you advise how to mail small ,shoebox size, packages. How is security guaranteed on items as I have heard that  security is a problem.

El correo is a Canadian company which as the contract to distribute the mail in Guatemala. There service is pretty good, not too fast. You can have your mail tracked either from the US or from Guatemala (called certificado) Regarding the fee... I guess you mean custom fee... if you send a box small... under 1mt adding all the length it is custom free. and of a value under $ 100 I think. Some packages come without problems.
