I can help with idle questions, everyday problems to serious health problems but I always sugget seeing a vet!
Experience I have had 14 guinea pigs in my life with more to come. I have volunteered at the local shelter just to work with the small animals on a weekly basis and I have been to countless vets to soak up there advice, as well as looking in my 50 something books on guinea pigs. I know almost everything I can wrap my head around about guinea pigs!
Sometimes my husband, who is an exotic bird vet/guinea pig fanatic helps me with the questions to!
Organizations I belong to S.A.R.S. BC. It stands for Small Animal Rescue Shelter.

Education/Credentials I have taken community courses for pet care, including small animals, but I have not been to school formal education (I am not a vet).
Currently I am in the process of becoming a published author and I have my degree in creative writing. Someday I will have my masters. I teach local classes for advanced creative writing and literature for teens.
Awards and Honors I have had my writing published in the paper for the fourtenth time about animal pet care facts. Nothing big, just me and a few other writers.

Question
I have a 6 month old Abyssinian male guinea pig named Ginney, which I purchased back in December last year when he was 5 months old. His birthday which I celebrated, was in July. I was very luck to have him in my life because Petsmart never carry‘s Abby‘s in their store, it was rare to see him that day with two bigger adult male American shorthairs. When I saw him I fell in love with him %26 he was the quiet one who was tamed %26 looking for a home so I bought him. This December will be a year for us %26 I love him so much %26 Shadow too. Anyway, I have a few questions that need some answers %26 apologize that this may be a bit long, but I’ve been searching for answers for a long while %26 always got stupid responses back. First my curiosity needs to be satisfied. What sparked my first curiosity is the nub an inch above their anus that looks like a leftover tail. When he’s happy it’s hard %26 pointy %26 soft when he’s relaxed, but it makes him popcorn %26 wondered what the heck it is? Second curious question, when Ginney is around Shadow, our 3 month old male American short hair which we got two weeks ago, he starts rubbing his genitals onto the floor which he then secretes this clear like liquid fluid from his penis %26 wondered what it was %26 why does he do that every time he’s around shadow? I know it’s not pee, but he does it when he’s either trying to hump Shadow or when he’s near him or even smells his presence. The other thing is when he humps is bedding, which is shocking to me, I was wondering why does he do that? My last curious question, why does Ginney always try to hump Shadow all the time? I can’t have them both together or near each other because of Ginney %26 his horniness. Shadow will have his own cage soon, right now I have a wall dividing the cage that I made myself that’s piggy proof.
Now for my most serious question. Two months ago, Ginney was sitting in my mom’s lap %26 for some odd unknown reason, he decided to jump off of her lap which made my mom almost have a heart attack, now his head is tilted sideways to the left! We took him to his vet %26 nothing was damaged or physically wrong with him, but next month he has an appointment for a checkup %26 his head tilt, but I need to know can this be life threatening to him? Other than that he’s doing awesome %26 he’s one healthy piggy, he’s gotten big too!! He’s eating a lot, hogging most of the hay, he’s wheeking, being playful %26 being a pain in the butt as usual…lol!! I’m very concerned about this whole head tilt thing, please help me with these answers. Thank you for your time %26 for answering my questions, sincerely Chaz.
Answer Hello Chaz!
I am sorry for the wait about your questions, I was in Miami for a few days. I will answer them all now though!
1)The nub an inch above their anus; This is there tial bone and I am afriad you are imagining things as it never changes, it just is.
2)When Ginney is around Shadow, he starts rubbing his genitals onto the floor which he then secretes this clear like liquid fluid from his penis; This is very normal, and why I only ever owned females. I am afriad that male GPs are just Pigs! Lol. He will do this forever, as he is just a honey little guy and probly, to answer your other question, will hump his bedding forever as well. He dreams of riding Shadow is all I can say ;). I suggest getting him nuetered, then they can have sex all they want and live together.
3) Guinea pigs do get fat. I have unfortunatley gotten myself an overwight, FAT PIG to. There is not much we can do about there Fat Pig Sydrome (FPS ;) ) except let them run around alot.
4) I say do as the vet says for that head tilt, it is uncommon for him to have this at his age. Hopefully it will go away on its own.
Hope this helps!
