Experience I have had 14 guinea pigs in my life with more to come. I have volunteered at the local shelter just to work with the small animals on a weekly basis and I have been to countless vets to soak up there advice, as well as looking in my 50 something books on guinea pigs. I know almost everything I can wrap my head around about guinea pigs!
Sometimes my husband, who is an exotic bird vet/guinea pig fanatic helps me with the questions to!

Currently I am in the process of becoming a published author and I have my degree in creative writing. Someday I will have my masters. I teach local classes for advanced creative writing and literature for teens.
Awards and Honors I have had my writing published in the paper for the fourtenth time about animal pet care facts. Nothing big, just me and a few other writers.

Question
QUESTION: Hello
Thank you for your knowledge and any help you may offer. I have a female guinea pig who seems well; she is talking, eating and drinking. Tonight when I took her out of her cage I noticed that she has what looks like a little red pimple in the corner of her right eye (the corner closest to her other eye). I took a soft tissue and tried to wipe it away thinking it was maybe a little "gooky stuff" but it did not go away. Her eye is not crusty, runny or swollen as far as I can tell. Do you have any idea what this can be? This little girl is soooooo smart. When she hears the frig open, she calls to us and she knows we will give her carrots. I really cannot afford at this time to take her to a vet so I am hoping it is nothing serious. Believe me, in the past, I have always treated my piggies well. I had a sick piggie one time and paid for vet care, IV antibiotics and hospital stay but unfortunately she died. This little piggie (her name is Velma) is very special and I do not want to lose her. Thank you for listening and for any help you can offer. I can try to take a picture of her eye if you think it would help.
ANSWER: Hello Judy!
Velma is obviously is good hands if you care enough to be concerned! I have a link to a wonderful site for you, in case you have any other questions the site is a faster way to an answer.

Bumps, especially close to the eye, are generally things you want to get checked out. It's probably just a cyst or an irritated/popped blood vessel of some sort. You should definitely take her to a vet if she worsens. Even if it's a cyst or something, it might still be putting pressure on his eye which could hurt her. I suggest taking a cloth with some warm water and gently dabbing the eye, you may even want to put in a sprinkle of salt.

QUESTION: Nicole
Here is a picture of Velma's eye. I hope you can tell me what you think it is. Thank you. I also tried a warm compress which she seemed to like and did not fight me.
Answer Hi agian!
Thanks for the pic. Confirms the fact: Vets a MUST. I assumed it was on the upper corner and not touching the eye much. A compress with a teaspoon of distilled witch hazel extract (can be found at a drugstore) and warm water may help little more. Other than that, I cannot offer any more help, I am sorry.
