About Nicole Bury
Expertise I can answer every question anyone has! I am always willing to hit the books for other owners! I and my husband between me have 6 guinea pigs and one expecting, that we intend to keep 2 of. I can help with idle questions, everyday problems to serious health problems but I always sugget seeing a vet!
Experience I have had 14 guinea pigs in my life with more to come. I have volunteered at the local shelter just to work with the small animals on a weekly basis and I have been to countless vets to soak up there advice, as well as looking in my 50 something books on guinea pigs. I know almost everything I can wrap my head around about guinea pigs!
Sometimes my husband, who is an exotic bird vet/guinea pig fanatic helps me with the questions to!
Organizations I belong to S.A.R.S. BC. It stands for Small Animal Rescue Shelter.
Publications The Vancouver sun.
Education/Credentials I have taken community courses for pet care, including small animals, but I have not been to school formal education (I am not a vet).
Currently I am in the process of becoming a published author and I have my degree in creative writing. Someday I will have my masters. I teach local classes for advanced creative writing and literature for teens.
Awards and Honors I have had my writing published in the paper for the fourtenth time about animal pet care facts. Nothing big, just me and a few other writers.

Question QUESTION: i was told that a female g pig dont swell up when in heet, but my female swells up back there bad like a female dog does, is she ok ? i just noticed noe that shes swolen again but this time alot and she is not useing one of her back legs and some of her hair is wet, please help with a answer, thank you... kathy...
ANSWER: Hello Kathy!
This could be many things. It is true that they due not swell, this hints at a UTI. Not using a back leg and swelling hints at cancer or a sprain and a UTI. Being wet, UTI or an ovarian cyst. I suggest reading the page I sent you and taking her to an exotics vet. (Also I was assuming the wet hair was around her vagina, if it was her head or belly or neck then she may have just been playing in her water bottle!)

QUESTION: thank you for answering, omg im scared, i was just layed off of work, and im alone with no family to help, is there anything i can do for selena ( my g pig ) @ home until i can come up with the $$.. thank you, kathy
Answer Hello again!
Try these two things that I did to ease pain for my girl Rhinestone while she had bladder cancer and I could afford treatment:
CRANBERRY JUICE
If your guinea pig has recurrent UTIs, try offering plain unsweetened diluted cranberry juice. Antibiotics are required to cure a UTI but cranberry juice may interfere with its development, cutting the incidence of UTIs in half.Use only unsweetened, natural cranberry juice. Syringe feed or place in water bottle. Change bottle containing juice at least daily and preferably twice a day. Plain unsweetened cranberry juice is quite strong and bitter in taste. Dilute with water. Do not use human cranberry drinks sweetened with sugar, apple juice, or other juices. Check your local health food stores for this product.
BARLEY WATER
