Experience I am currently going to college to become an exotic animal veterinarian. I also rescue and breed guinea pigs, I have for around 10 years.
Question my boyfriend just got me a guinea pig for christmas. he is just a baby. we had him for a week and he seemed fine. then when we took him home for the holidays he got sick. we made sure he was wrapped up and kept warm when we were traveling. he has lost some weight and has been sneezing and dry heaving. he is still drinking alot of water and eats some of his pellets and parsely. im headed out to get him some more vitimens.... any other suggestions??
Answer Check his mouth and teeth to make sure nothing is stuck any where, guinea pigs can not vomit, so sometimes they can get things stuck in the back of their mouth. If he is sneezing, coughing, and/or has drainage in his nose or eyes then he most likely has an upper respiratory infection. I have the treatment on my website, though if he stops eating or drinking then he will need to see a vet to get antibiotics immediatly. My website is http://woopets.bravehost.com .
