AboutDave Dixon Expertise Guitar player since 1987. Studied at Musicians` Institute. Worked as guitar/music teacher since 1991.
Experience Since joining AllExperts I have been getting rated with 9's and 10's from most of the people I've answered questions from, so I guess that I must be doing something right. Not all that many people can be wrong.
Questions about theory, technique, equipment, players, history, etc. welcome - just about anything in fact. The only things I prefer not to answer are requests for transcriptions, or equipment assessments/valuations.
Question Hey, I'm building a guitar for myself and I was just wondering if willow wood would be a good choice for a solid body electric. If its not what would? Especially when my budget is from $100-$300. Thanks for your time.
Answer Hi Dylan,
Thanks for your question.
I can't recall ever having heard of willow being used for guitar building, so I'm going to guess that it probably isn't that suitable.
Guitar bodies need to be made of a good quality, well-seasoned hardwood. The type of wood used will affect the sound. Alder, ash, maple, mahogany and basswood are all fairly common i guitar construction, although more exotic woods such as korina may be used.
Regards,
Dave
