My name is Will Hart.I am in the Engineering Design and Development class at Glencoe High School in Hillsboro, Oregon. For my project, I have to validate that improvements to guitar stands are necessary. Do you believe, from your experience with handling guitars and guitar stands, that there could be improvements made? For example, have you ever had damage to one of your guitars from the guitar being bumped out of the stand? Do you wish that placing the guitar in the stand could be both instant and secure?
I'd appreciate your feedback,
-Will Hart
Answer Hi Will, I do think guitar stands could stand to be improved dramatically actually. I think they need to be lighter, more compact but stronger & built in such a way so that the guitar is held firmly in place & the stand won't topple over when you pic your guitar up & the strap catches the stand. Most guitar stands are built using an A frame design, I think using a series of collapsible ellipses that grip the guitar from the body might fare better. No jutting edges to catch the strap on, stronger etc. I've had two guitars fall face first out of the stand on me, luckily they didn't break, but I wasn't too pleased about it anyhow. I think it would be great if you could just put the guitar stand out & put the guitar in it & have it be both instant & secure. If you ever make any prototypes, send some to me & I'll test them out for you. I gig constantly, so they'll get an honest roadworthy evaluation from a real working class musician. If they work real well, I'll start marketing them for you up here in Canada! Good luck & lemme know how it goes.
Peace - J.
