Question These cables are cheap enough, but I just have to understand how they work. My sons cable just stopped working. It meters out fine. I know the cable is bad, because he tried another cable with no problems. I need information on the plugs and how they are constructed and any other information you may thing would be helpful.
Thanks,
Robert
Answer Hey Robert, it can only be one of two things: a break, or a short. In either case, just re-solder the ends & it should be fine. Cables should last forever if looked after properly, so be sure to wrap them up carefully & neatly when finished with them & you'll have years of trouble free operation. As far as their construction, there's really nothing to them. There's a strand of fine wires housed in a soft plastic sheath, with another layer of fine wire wrapped or braided around the core. The center tap goes to the tip, while the outer layer goes to the sleeve. (For non balanced cable anyhow - Balanced cables is another story altogether & not relevant to your current application) Hope that helps, if you need anything else, just drop me a line.
