Guitar - General/Guitar style?

Question
What is the "waka waka waka" style guitar in "Papa Was a
Rolling Stone"?  Also in "Theme from Shaft".  Kind of a 70's
cliche sound.

Answer
Hey Brannen, the style of the music Funk/Motown & the effect used is called a wah-wah pedal. Other tunes that have wah:

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile
Jimi Hendrix - Burning of the Midnight Lamp

The Grateful Dead - Althea
The Grateful Dead - Eyes of the world
The Grateful Dead - Shakedown Street

Stevie Wonder - Higher Ground (On the Clavs)

There's way more than that of course, but it's late & that's just off the top of my head Hope that helps, if you need anything else, just drop em a line.
Peace - J.

Experience

I have been playing guitar for over 30 years & tour regularly with my band River City Junction. We play a mix of Blues, Jazz, Funk, Motown, R&B & Classic Rock so I can help answer any questions related to these genres as well. I also have extensive experience using many different brands of guitars, amplifiers & effects. I do most of my own work on my guitars, preferring not to let anyone else touch them so unless it's a regret or something that requires an actual luthier, it's taken care of in house. I also build & repair my own pedals & tube amps, so I can help with questions of a technical nature with regards to these subjects as well.
