Question I have been playing for about 2.5 years. I play a Schecter C-1 Plus Guitar. I think I am making good progress, for and old guy starting out,48, but he suggested I may be fighting my action and not really realize it. He said on some better guitars the action is much easier to play. In other words... if I don't know, and I don't know I don't know, I will never know until I try something better. What are your thoughts on this? It may give me justification for buying a new guitar!
Answer Hey Tom, in my opinion, that's bullshit. I use D'Addario Chromes which go from .10 to .48 & play in standard tuning with my action set pretty high & I can pretty much play any guitar regardless as to what the action is set to. I don't like super heavy strings (11's or 12's & up) because I like big bends & whatnot, but it's more the gauge of the string rather than the action that is the issue for me. (Especially tuned to concert pitch) As for the more expensive guitar pitch, I own 2 Gibsons. A Les Paul Standard & a BluesHawk. The LP cost me almost 3G's after tax & a pickup upgrade to '57 Classics, the Blueshawk cost like 1200. I recently purchased an Epiphone Sheraton II that I had some custom pickups made for by Sheptone & I haven't taken either of my other 2 guitars down off the wall since. The guitar was like 900 bucks. Guitars are very personal, so my belief is, you'll know your guitar when you pick it up & start playing it. It will just feel like it's always belonged against your body kinda like your woman does. One last thing, if you think & feel like you're doing well & making good pregress, then you are. Music is all about feeling & passion man, so if you're feeling good about it, then don't let anyone tell you shit. Including me! lol Hope that helps bro, if you need anything else, just drop me a line.
