These are Alvarez models, nothing to do with Yairi.  There were two versions of these laser cut soundhole designs.  One had the large single laser cut hole (approximately where the soundhole would be) this one is the 5008 Anniversary model from 1982, it also had electronics and a cutaway. The other had TWO laser cut holes, on either side of the fingerboard in the upper bout, and was also a 60th SLM Anniversary model 5051.  They both had solid spruce (stained) tops, and laminated mahogany back and sides.

Retail list price in 1982 $475.

although 5 yrs after the original post, i feel i should post what i know. i also own a 5051 alverez acoustic. it is a wonderful sounding guitar and very playable.. mine too has the laser cut designs on each side of the fret board. now these guitars where the 60th aniversary model. the first lot that came in actually had the laser cut floral design on each side of the neck but no holes. this made it impossable to get a broken string out of it if it fell in. also the sound was a bit muffeled the second batch that was made came through as our design with the oval cut holes on each side. there was only one more lot that came in after that and they discontinued the modle as it was..im sure how many wee actually produced between the three runs. i did see a first edition (without the holes) on ebay a few weeks back and they wanted 1600. plus dollars for it.. who knows what they really got.. hold on to the is if you still have it. there arent many guitars out there with this sound or projection.. by the way, mine never came with a sticker or label inside. it just has "hand made" stamped or burned into the truss inside.. all of these guitars were made between 1982 and 1983... hope this helps.. if you even see it aftere all these years.. happy playing  jaime

What kind of old guitar do I have? Is it valuable? How old is it? Where was it made? Is it worth repairing? Advice on buying new or used guitars, accessories, etc. [Note: While I can give some general info on approximate values of types of instruments, neither I nor anyone else can do an "appraisal" without actually seeing and handling the instrument] I have almost 40 years` experience as a player and afficianado. If I don`t have an answer myself, I can often refer people to other authoritative sources.
