Subject: Painting my electric violin

Question
I just read your Q & A on taking off a clear coat before repainting an electric guitar...but my question is...how will it affect an electric Violin if I paint it. Mine is all black and it is just to boring for me...I need more! I am guessing that because it is electric and the body of the Violin does not make much of a difference when it come to it playing well...but i just want to get a clear answer before i jump in and mess it up.  Oh and one more.  What about the bow, I want it to match! Will painting it way it down to much?

Thank for your time!

Answer
Hello Dezaray. I'm not an expert when it comes to violins but here's my 2 cents. If the violin is a hollow body with a piezo bridge leave it alone because you could adversely effect the acoustic tones. Like painting an acoustic guitar the sound of it will change to some degree. If it is a solid body electric than I feel safe in saying go ahead and paint away same as you would on a solid body electric guitar. Now as for the bow I can't help you there I'm really not that familiar with them. Hope this helps.
