I can answer questions pertaining to beginner or expert acoustic or electric guitar. Guitar repair and set up. Song writing and basic copyright laws. Recording music in the studio or live recording and set up. Questions concerning, booking your band and what wages you can expect.

Experience
I have played guitar for 40 years and performed for over 30 years. During this time I have gained knowledge of the music business in Guitar repairs, makes and models, equipment for guitar and recording. By doing my own work, I have saved hundreds of dollars. I am not a legal expert, but I have knowledge of the music business and I keep up with the changes in the business.

Awards and Honors
I have songs that I wrote that have been recognized by Billboard and I had a top ten country song in Europe. I have a band that has worked together for 20years and we still make our living playing music. I love this business and like to help others learn about this exciting business.

Question
my nephew, who is 13, decieded that he wants to learn how to play the guitar.  i am trying to but him one for christmas but i have no idea where to begin.  all i know is that i am trying not to spend a crazy amount of money (i am a poor college student!), i need something that is electric, and i need the whole kit... please help!!!  Thanks for your help- kristi

Answer
Hi Kristi,
Well, there are several questions to ask but mainly, is this his first guitar? If so don't spend a lot of money. Most music stores have package deals for beginning players. I have seen some packages from Fender that has a Fender Squire Guitar(comp to a Fender Strat) with a small amp, cords and tuner for under 200.00. So shop around.
Use a creditable music store in your area. And by the way, don't let the sale person try and get you to buy pro gear. You never know if your nephew will stay with the guitar in the future, but if he does, he can always up grade after a couple years of learning.

Hope this helps

Patrick
