About Patrick
Expertise
I can answer questions pertaining to beginner or expert acoustic or electric guitar. Guitar repair and set up. Song writing and basic copyright laws. Recording music in the studio or live recording and set up. Questions concerning, booking your band and what wages you can expect.

Experience
I have played guitar for 40 years and performed for over 30 years. During this time I have gained knowledge of the music business in Guitar repairs, makes and models, equipment for guitar and recording. By doing my own work, I have saved hundreds of dollars. I am not a legal expert, but I have knowledge of the music business and I keep up with the changes in the business.

Awards and Honors
I have songs that I wrote that have been recognized by Billboard and I had a top ten country song in Europe. I have a band that has worked together for 20years and we still make our living playing music. I love this business and like to help others learn about this exciting business.

Guitar Music - I'm having trouble coming up with my own stuff...

Question
I have been playing guitar pretty consistently for the past 4 months and I
have gotten to a point where I feel like I am not getting any better at it.
Usually, when I play guitar I run through the scales and do a few finger
exercises, then I'll do some chord progressions (the style that I try to play is
mostly blues). The problem is, I don't know which chords go good together or
how to create phrases. I'd really like to learn to solo and improvise, but I have
trouble finding notes that connect with each other. I have given thought to
taking lessons, but I am a college student and right now I don't have the time
or money to get them. Anyways, I was wondering if you could possibly tell me
which chords you've found go together well or maybe offer some suggestions
on learning how to phrase notes and chords or improvisation. Thank you for
your time.

Answer
Hi Stephen,

I would really like to see you get some lessons. How about putting an ad in your college paper and barter with someone that may need your expertise. It's worth a try.

Here are some chords that you can put together to form hundreds of songs.

G C D- add a minor by using a Bm or Em

C F G- minor Am

D G C- minor Am Bm

There are endless combinations you can use. A good beginners book would help or a chord book.

Hope this helps

Patrick
