AboutPatrick Expertise I can answer questions pertaining to beginner or expert acoustic or electric guitar. Guitar repair and set up. Song writing and basic copyright laws. Recording music in the studio or live recording and set up. Questions concerning, booking your band and what wages you can expect.
Experience I have played guitar for 40 years and performed for over 30 years.
During this time I have gained knowledge of the music business in Guitar repairs, makes and models, equipment for guitar and recording. By doing my own work, I have saved hundreds of dollars. I am not a legal expert, but I have knowledge of the music business and I keep up with the changes in the business.
Awards and Honors I have songs that I wrote that have been recognized by Billboard and I had a top ten country song in Europe. I have a band that has worked together for 20years and we still make our living playing music. I love this business and like to help others learn about this exciting business.
Question I am a new guitarist, and although I am about to turn 25 I have plenty of motivation and have stuck with it for over 6 months now. I pratice as much as possible, I love it. Anyhow I have a martin DM and play it more than my Electric. But I cant afford private lessons and I find so much bad information out there. I am currently borrowing the Esteban Videos from a friend and have found mixed reviews about him. I dont want to assume many bad habits and was wondering if I should go with any other instructional methods for the guitar or should i stick with the Estaban Videos? Help me please.
Thanks, Shannon
Answer Hi Shannon,
Glad to hear you are so into learning the guitar. It is rewarding every time you learn a new chord or run, and you can put it together and create music. You have a great guitar! There are very few that can afford to learn on a Martin.
I am not really in tune to the Esteban style of play, It would be hard for me to comment on it. But I visited the site and it really seems very commercial to me.
He is a great guitarist, but where do you want to go with the guitar? Is that the style you are looking to play? If so, then work with the video that you have. If not, find a teacher or video that teaches more along the style that you are interested in. The public library is a great source for teaching tools.
I wouldn't worry about picking up bad habits at this time, for the simple fact that as time goes on and you get better, you will be playing your own style no matter who you learn from.
A little at a time!! Sometimes less is better!!
Take it in slowly and really learn it. that would be the best advise I can give.
