Question i have a 30-30 lever action winchester model 94 made in new haven usa winchester proof steel 4479657 blonged to my great grandpapa the gun shoots good never been re-done
Answer Mike,
Based on the serial number provided, your gun was manufactured in 1977. There were over 25 different versions of the Model 94 that were produced between 1964 and 1991. Without knowing exactly which version you have, I can't really give you an exact price. In addition, the actual condition of the gun can have a tremendous effect on the value.
This is basically the reason that I don't want to provide values since it is essentially just a 'guess' without actually being able to see the condition of the gun and understand the specifics of that particular gun.
All that said, most likely you have a Model 94 Standard Rifle. The rifle has a 24 inch barrel and a tube type magazine under the barrel. The barrel is round, it has a straight walnut stock, open sights and a barrel band on the foreend.
In 90% condition, this gun would be worth around $250. In 98% (basically brand new condition), it would be worth approximately $350.
Since the Model 94 has been discontinued, many people are asking as much as 50% over the appraised values. Whether or not people will actually get these prices will depend on the continued long term demand for the rifle. Please understand that these post 1964 manufactured guns are not rare (except in very limited calibers and configurations).
