Guns, Firearms, Projectile Weapon Sports - Stevens Arms Company

Expert: Paul Johnston - 6/12/2007

Question
I've read a few articles, stories, etc. on the internet with regard to a company located in Chicopee Falls Mass called Stevens Arms Company.  My question is this...  I own a 22 long 22 cal rifle manufactured by this company.  My question is this - why does the rifle that I have only say Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls, Mass on it?  I have seen other people who state that the company name is slightly different than what is engraved on my rifle.  Can you tell me about the difference in the way the company is identified on my rifle?  I have a feeling that the rifle that I own may be quite old.  Again, it only says Stevens Arms Company for the company name.  Does not have any initials, etc.   Wondering how old this rifle is that I have.  Thanks for your help.  Have a great day.

Answer
It originally was J. Stevens Arms and Tool Co., 1864-1916, 1916-1940 J. Stevens Arms Co., and just Stevens after that. My guess would be yours is from the mid-range name but do you have a model #? They are well-built rifles, but due to the # mfg. have not really increased in value. Thanks for the question.

What type of action is this gun? Bolt? Falling block? or semi-auto?
