Question I recently inherited a remington model 760 .35 cal with a renfield 4x scope with a quickswitch mount. I have read on the internet that this is a medium range gun that is great for hunting. I do not hunt. I love long range plinking and 2 dealers want to sell me a Savage .308 package for a grand. Should I just be happy with grandpappy's rifle or should I shuck out the bucks for something that will shoot accurately. I am looking to hit something at over 300 yards. I am trying eliminate the feeling that I could have purchased a surplus gun and had just as much fun. Any suggestions? Thanks, john zunich
Answer For over 300 yards .35 Remington won't really work. .308 would be fine. $100. for a Savage sounds high, unless it is their premium gun and has good glass. I will say Savage makes one of the best factory guns for the money, but that sounds high. A surplus Mauser with a new barrel would be a cheaper route. You could sell your gun on Gunbroker.com and probably get $400. or so, then turn around and for $1-200. more have a new gun built for long-range. Good luck.
