Answer N.R. Davis is an old New England company ,they also made hammerless steel-barreled shotguns. They originally were Bacon Firearms, then Crescent, then NR Davis, then Crescent Davis. Savage bought the company out in 1931. They also made Knickerbocker, Victor, New Empire and about 100 other house brands. Good solid utilitarian shotguns, a bit heavy but dependable. They started out in 1888 so my guess is your shotgun is early. In good shape, and with handloaded shells of blackpowder or pyrodex it could still be used on occasion.
