Guns N` Roses - one in a million

Expert: Josee - 2/26/2009

Question
One in a Million is one of my favourite songs, What do you think the the meaning of this verus is.
You're one in a million
Yeah, that's what you are
You're one in a million, babe
You're a shooting star
Maybe someday we'll see you
Before you make us cry
You know we tried to reach you
But you were much too high
Much too high, much too high,
Much too high, yes, ow!
I have heard alot of different opinions on it. My opinion is that when he says your one in a million- he is talking about himself as in he is one in a million.
And the rest of the verus he is talking about the struggle within himself trying to beat his demons and the drugs.
when he says we tried to reach you but you were much to high. He is talking about trying to reach himself but he is to high. What do u think about this theory. What is yours

Answer
Hi there!

Impressions of song, IMHO, are very personnal.  And your interpretation seems really good.  I cannot say it's right or not, it's such a personnal thing.

For me, I always took it in the sense he his talking about individualism or someone, not anyone in particular, who is alone in his/her little world.  I don't take it as if he was talking about himself, but rather about a typical person from his surroundings.

Wouldn'd it be cool to actually discuss this with the man himself? :)
