Cat's in the cradle was not a Cat Steven's song.  It was originally done by Harry Chapin.

Actually, Cats in the Cradle was originally done by Harry Chapin. Cat Stevens never sang it. Guns N' Roses did do a cover of the song. Ugly kid joe, johnny cash, and DMC have also done covers of cats in the cradle. you should get your facts straight before answering a question.

Your correct in thinking it was Ugly Kid Joe, and your right that it's a cover.  However, the original artist was not Cat Stevens but rather "Harry Chapin" and can be found on any number of his 'Greatest Hits' or  'Best Of' collections  .

Although, in all fairness, both artists do share a similar style.  There was also an excellent cover done by Johnny Cash in case you're interested.  Anyways, best wishes!

Irina, I'm sorry to say that there is still a correction to be made. The song was never done by Cat Stevens either... This is also a common misunderstanding.

Regards Patrik

"Cat's in the Cradle" is a 1974 folk rock song by Harry Chapin from the album Verities & Balderdash. It is not a Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) song.

Dear David and Irina,

it is true that GnR have never covered 'cats in the cradle', but people often get confused by the original author of the song. It was Harry Chapin who wrote it, not Cat Stevens.

Actually, the Cat Stevens version is a cover as well.  The original artist was Harry Chapin (he wrote it for his son Josh).
