Question gnr were great..everyone wanted them to go on forever but unfortunately slash and axl split..
ive tried searching the net for information about the split but i couldnt get the details..
ive read some early interviews where slash says he really likes axl and they were real good friends...hard to digest the fact that 7-8 years after the split, slash hasnt even spoken to axl..
even matt sorum said that axl had a big ego and an attitude problem...well,why did gnr split?one version i heard is that axl wanted to go to the techno side and slash wanted to stay in the blues and the hard rock genre..its actually hard to hate axl after listening to all his songs..
Answer Hey Aneesh!
Thank you for using AllExperts.com and choosing me as your GNR expert.
As for your question - Unfortunately you have recieved some tidbits of information that relate to different aspects of the 'GNR split'. Fear not, all shall be explained here.
It is very true that Slash has always held Axl Rose in high regard, despite Axl's obvious and well known ego and attitude problems. However, Slash did *not* leave the band because Axl wanted to go 'techno' (which is totally untrue, Axl has never wanted to take GNR into techno). That rumour is partially true though , but it relates to Izzy Stradlin, not Slash. However since you asked me about Slash I won't waste your time telling you about Izzy's departure (feel free to send me another question regarding that issue if you want some info on it, I'll only be too happy to tell you about it).
During 1995/1996, Axl Rose became excessively reclusive and paranoid in the recording studio. It was during this time that Guns N' Roses did a cover of the Rolling Stones song 'Sympathy for the Devil', which was featured on An Interview With A Vampire's soundtrack. Slash and numerous other GNR members all contributed musically to this song, however after the song was finished, Axl took it upon himself to heavily edit it, in some cases eliminating all contributions of some GNR members (such as Gilby Clarke). Slash was one of those who Axl took liberties on with this song, and this was the final straw for one Slash. Of course, Axl's demeanor and hostile attitude throughout GNR's existance was always hard to bear, but Slash was one of few who put up with it. Slash took exception to Axl tampering with his work and promptly quit the band. Axl had also gone as far as to edit out other band members work just so he could add the music of one of his close friends, Paul Huge. Axl did *not* consult any other band members before doing any of this.
Slash has said numerous times after leaving that he would always be open to returning to GNR and work with Axl. However, it is Axl who refuses to communicate with Slash or any other GNR band members (the true reason for this is only known by Axl Rose himself). On one occasion recently, Axl Rose refused to visit a certain building, simply because Slash would also be present and he was scared that Slash would 'attack him'. Axl has never been one to act rationally, and this case was no exception.
