Subject: Pommel horse
Question What muscles are involved in a stride swing on the pommel horse and should your centre of mass be over the horse?
Answer Jess-
Stride swing is a pretty old term or one I'm not familiar with. I'm assuming that is the circle action. Doing circles requires force from the arms and extension of the hips. There are many muscles involved in this. The triceps, the forearms, chest, biceps, hand strength, abs and back for extension, legs tightening, etc. I'm not sure of what all the muscles are but know that it is a complete list of involvement from each part of the body. The push from the triceps may be the most important.
The center of mass will most often be over the horse to some degree. The base of support, where your arm makes contact with the horse, is very important. There always has to be weight over the hands to make the circle move. The center of mass would be about a mid-point of the support and where the body is in space.
