Question Hi. I am curious about how routines are scored, and I was hoping you could help me to understand something about judging. When you miss a skill in a routine, do you lose the full amount of points for the skill plus .50 for a fall? If it helps any, my daughter will be competing USAG L5.
Specifically, for a cartwheel on beam, say you do your cartwheel and get both feet on beam, but can't keep your balance and fall off. Do you get any partial credit for the cartwheel, or do you lose the points for the cartwheel as well as take a deduction for a fall?
Secondly, what happens if you miss your kip on the high bar? My daughter can not pullover from a hang, so she would need the coach to help her get up and over the bar if she misses her high bar kip. Does that mean that she loses the value of the kip plus takes a deduction for the fall as well as a deduction for a coach spotting her to get back over the high bar so that she can complete her routine? What do they generally recommend for girls to do if they miss their high bar kip? Do they allow you to take any extra swings to either try the kip again or to do a pullover from a swing to get up on the bar, or are there additional deductions for that? Thanks for your help.
Answer Hi Leslie,
I am sorry to tell you that I am not a judge. To get a complete answer you need to ask one of the experts who are currently a judge. I wish you the best and sorry I could not give you a definitive answer. Take Care -- Jack Leonard
