Question
please help me on this, i want to learn a backflip, i can do it alone by holding poles of support, now i want to move on the ground but i have fear even when the spotters are there. Can you give me tips on how to get over with the fear........help

Answer
Aman Fear is a good thing but Knowledge is better.
A back flip can be trained for in  slow motion on a Cheese shaped inclined mat. with you feet at the top laying on you back down hill and your hands by your sides laying flat you can pretend like you are standing on the floor. Then because you are laying down you can move in slow motion and lift your hands and knees simultaneously over your head (noticing that your head doesn't move and keeping your eyes open) let your knees pull your hips off the mat and stretch your hands up over your head (until  they touch the inclined mat). Bringing you knees in an arch like path all the way to your hands completing a down hill slow motion roll. Your hands should land above your head on the mat with your knees in you hands. Do not forget to keep your eyes open all the time. You should always see where your knees are going and where you are.  When your knees reach your hands you will roll over and your head will be able to see the ground (the top of the inclined mat) and then you release your knees with your hands simulating the kick out of the flip and them you stand up.

This Brain training as I call it will let you see the entire flip in slow motion without fear of falling and injury. it also trains the abdomen muscles to lift and the leg muscles. Hopefully this will improve your technique for all your back flips. Let me know if this helps.

After you master the back roll on the incline and can successfully put your knees in you hands making an arch (like McDonalds golden arch ) from their starting position to their finished landing. then ask your coach to spot you on the vertical attempt. Remember to think with your head and throw with your arms as in the inclined mat when your head did not move back,  your knees and arms did the rotation.

Also practice stretch jumps swinging your arms up as you jump. It helped to stack mats and see how many I could jump up on to from a stand.

When your coach says your ready get them to spot you on trying the real thing standing on the regular mat. Hopefully your brain will remember what it learned on the inclined mat and transfer it to your body vertically.

once you know what to do your brain will feel the confidence and let go of the fear when it feels you can do it right every time... it just takes practice and lots of it.
