Gymnastics - round off back handspring

Expert: Dean Dryer - 10/22/2009

Question
I sprained my ankle around 7 weeks ago. I had just gotten my standing back handspring on a cheese mat and tumble track by myself. I just went back to tumbling last week and i was working on my round off back handspring. They were pretty ok. I've been practicing so much everything i can at home, like the posture, sitting and jumping back, reaching, etc. I'm taking private lessons with a professional gymnast 3 times a week for an hour. How long do you think it will take me to get it?

Answer
Marisa,

Glad to hear that you are getting back into the gym after your injury.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to predict with any certainty how long it will take you to learn a skill. So much of it depends on your mindset and dedication, that I simply can't say.

Although, from what you are telling me of your training I would think it wouldn't be too long.

Keep working hard,

Dean Dryer
