Question Hi! I was just wondering when people say walk-on's what does it mean. Well I know it means that they don't have a scholarship but does that mean that you could be like a level 7 coming into college gymnastics and then you work your way up?
Answer Hi Amber,
You wrote, "Hi! I was just wondering when people say walk-on's what does it mean. Well I know it means that they don't have a scholarship but does that mean that you could be like a level 7 coming into college gymnastics and then you work your way up?"
Well, I guess you are pretty much the expert here as you have answered your own question.
I suggest that you contact the college coach of the school where you would like to "walk-on" as space will obviously be limited and his/her focus needs to be on the first-string team members.
Some colleges have "gymnastics clubs" you can join to workout and keep up your skills or continue to develop skills toward potentially making the team.
I also suggest you touch base with Tom Kovic, former women's gymnastics coach at University of Pennsylvania and now a consultant on college scholarships for athletes.
