HTML/CSS + HTML questions

Hi Dan-

I am using Shopify to create a website and need to change several of the presets in CSS (and/or HTML).  I am good with some code, but this is way too extensive and I don't know where to make the changes exactly.  Below is some of the code with descriptions of where it's located in the Assets CSS named style.css.liquid.

1. The first thing I need to change is the title size for each product that shows under each product image on the product page.  Here is the CSS that I think it is, under the products section.

.three-per-row .coll-prod-title {
 font-family:{{ settings.headings_font }};

2. Then I need to change the sizes of the title, price and "add to cart" button once the "buy" button is clicked and customer lands on the buy page.  Here is the CSS that I think it is, under the products section.

.four-per-row .coll-prod-buy, .three-per-row .coll-prod-buy {
 background-color:{{ settings.global_button_color }};
 color:{{ settings.global_button_font_color }};
 font-family:{{ settings.text_font }};

.four-per-row .coll-prod-buy {
 padding:5px 10px 6px;
 margin-left: 5px;

.three-per-row .coll-prod-buy  {
 padding:7px 12px 8px;
 margin-left: 5px;

3. Last, I made a new page and placed a table on it, which has a grey line and off-white background by default that I want to change to #FFFFFF background and border color.  Here is some table code under RTE, which I'm not sure if it controls the general table format.

.rte table {
 border: 1px solid {{ settings.global_table_border_color }};

.rte { border:none }

.rte table tr:hover td { background-color:#e9e9e9 }

.rte tr:hover td { background-color:transparent }

.rte table th {
 padding: 15px 10px 10px 10px;
 font-weight: normal;
 font-size: 14px;

.rte th { padding:0 }

.rte table td {
 padding: 10px;
 border-top: 1px solid {{ settings.global_table_border_color }};
 background-color:{{ settings.global_table_background_color }};

.rte td {

I'll be happy to send the entire CSS if that would help.

Also, what is the going US rate for this type of website design (from a template) and the hourly project rate?  I was thinking $500 flat/design and $40/hour project.

Thank you,

Hi there,

From this snippet of code, I can't find the CSS you're looking for.  What might be best, is use Firefox and download the "Firebug" plugin.  Then, you can right click on the titles on the page and select "Inspect Element" and you'll see the CSS classes attached to them.  That will then make it easier to see what CSS needs to be modified.

I've never done Shopify work before, so I can't say specifically.  I'd say your estimates sound about right however.

I am a professional Web Designer & Developer. I work with HTML, XHTML and CSS every day, and would be glad to help with your problems, and answer your questions.

Experience in the area I have been a web designer/developer since 1997. I started developing websites with HTML 3.2 and using tables for layout. In 2006 I received my degree in Computational Media, and now work full time as a Webmaster and Interactive Media Author, as well as teaching continuing education courses on HTML, CSS and ActionScripting at my local college. Currently I design with XHTML and CSS - no tables and much cleaner and more accessible code and allows the designer more freedom and flexibility than tables.
