Question
hello dr.
In your book you state that women only have the type II 5-alpha-reductase. Can you tell me more about that?
I know of anti-androgens that claim to block type 1 in women and they are published scientific claims.
Can you please help me with this discrepancy. thank you.

Answer
Type I is the enzyme in the skin and hair of men and women. Type II is in the prostate of men.
There may be a typographical error in the book. Dutasteride blocks type I and II which it why it works well in post menopausal women.
I missed the typographical error in the book so if you could please tell me what page you found that error would appreciate it so I can make the correction on the online edition.
