Question I am 26 yrs old married female. I am experiencing hair fall since last 2-3 months. I tend to loose about 40-50 strands daily. But the day I wash them (twice a week), and apply oil i think they fall out more.I dont know what to do. I have also got my TSH checked, it was 4.13. But apart from hair fall I do not have any other symptoms of hypothyroidism. My endocrinologist didnt prescribed any medication as he didnt felt the need. I am seriously thinking of shaving them all off once. I have got a bit of dandruff problem but not very much, I dont massage my hair while applying oil or washing as i fear they might break more.I just apply oil very gently from a dropper.Actually last year I developed acne and my dermatologist advised me against oiling the hair as I have oily skin and it could have aggravated the acne. So I didnt oiled them for 8-9 months.I think this may also be one of the reasons. I feel they have become weak from the roots as often i notice a white bulb at the end of hair which fall out. There is no prob with my diet as i eat a lot of fruits, salads, water. But still they fall out. I have also decided to start segals solution programme but i dont know how much will it help. Should I visit a trichologist to get my hair and scalp analysis done, but I dont want to take any allopathic medicines as i feel they all have some or the other side effects. Please help..??
Answer Hello Nilofar:
It is normal to lose 80-100 hairs per day, but most of this hair loss goes unnoticed. It is impossible to count the number of fallen hairs per day. If you are noticing more than the usual amount of hairs being shed then you probably do have a hair loss condition.
Any change, imbalance or disturbance can disrupt the hair growth cycle causing more hairs than usual to retreat to the telogen (resting) stage where they will then fall out 1-3 months later. Thinking back to the months preceding your hair loss may provide clues. Possibilities include stress, trauma, medication, vaccination, infection, illness, medical procedure, etc. This type of hair loss is often temporary and reversible once the underlying cause is identified and treated.
Any thyroid disorder can lead to hair loss. Even a slight thyroid imbalance can cause hair loss. The oily scalp and dandruff can also contribute to hair loss. Massage with essential oils and other nourishing oils is very beneficial. Certain essential oils help regulate sebum (oil) production and also relieve dandruff. Scalp massage treatments will not increase shedding. It may loosen hairs that were already in the telogen stage but these hairs would have fallen out anyway, with or without massage. It is normal to see a white bulb at the fallen hair root. You may find the following links helpful to learn more about female hair loss and solutions.
