Answer
Hello Linda: Anytime the body feels a shock to the system, the hair growth cycle can become disrupted, causing more hairs than usual to retreat to the resting "telogen" stage where thy will then fall out within 1-3 months. The time frame of you car accident and hair shedding does indicate that the accident may have possibly triggered the shedding. This condition is often temporary and self-correcting once the body heals or adjusts, especially if the individual is otherwise healthy. The hair usually sheds fairly evenly from all over the scalp. This type of hair loss does not cause distinctive bald patches. If you have a smooth round bald patch will well defined margins you may have a different type of hair loss.
It is very important to take time to heal properly. Anytime the body has to work over-time to heal an area of concern, the hair will be "ignored" in order to supply more energy and nourishment to the area in need of healing.  Changing your shampoo schedule or using an alternate shampoo will probably not have any effect.
Massaging you scalp with essential oil treatments on a regular basis may have a positive effect. Essential oils are very potent. They help stimulate new hair growth by increasing blood supply, oxygen, nourishment and energy to the follicles. You may read how I used essential oils for my own hair loss problem at the link below.
