Hair Loss - eyebrows

Expert: Peter J. Panagotacos, M.D. - 7/8/2009

Question
I have never had a full set of eye brows my father has very thin eyebrows and my mother has great thick eyebrows and i got the cross between them. My eyebrows are thin yet thick and it looks really bad. there is only hair in certain spots and it grows somewhat long. I am wondering if there is a natual way to fix this or will I have to do hair treatment surgery. I am also wondering how much it will cost me if I do have to do surgery. It is really embarassing and noticeable I would like to change them to normal as soon as possible. Thank you for this and helping me with my question

Answer
You could see a dermatologist and ask for a prescription for Latisse which is a lotion you can paint on. It was approved for making eyelashes longer but also works for eyebrows. You could apply this twice a day with your fingertip and 5% minoxidil once a day as well using your fingertip. It will take about two to three months to notice if it is working. Take good close-up before photos so you have a good baseline for comparison three months later. Transplants can be done but they are expensive ($3,000 to $5,000) and you would have to constantly trim them since they grow at the same rate they did from the area they came from.
