QuestionHello sir,
I would be deleghted to ask you questions regarding a severe problem which is troubling me since 2 years. Since two years i've been suffering from a flake like substance in my hair. Its actually there in my scalp and it gives a itching sensation especially when i sweat. I'm sure its not a heridity problem i used to always have a personal comb which i failed to continue a year back. I started to lend and borrow combs from my friends.
But after the problem has be noticed by me i stopped this habit. Is this dandruff? My cousin was also having the same prob n her dermatologist has suggested to use Clofoam(Cipla product). Even i started using it since 7 months. But whenever i stop using it in intervals i fall into trouble again.
I would be enlightened n thankfull to u if u give me answers to the foll questions:
1. Is this dandruff?
2. Can it be permantely cured?
3. Can i use shampoos or Shikyakas(powder)?
4. Your personal suggestions.
I am anxiously waiting for your reply. Thank you very much. Love,
Eben.

AnswerI think you are dealing with dandruff which is properly called Seborrheic Dermatitis. Many doctors use a cortisone lotion to control the itch and flakes but the most important aspect of treatment should be to treat the cause which is a yeast growing in the oil glands and hair follicles. I would see a dermatologist and ask for Ketoconizole 2% Shampoo to use daily until you get it cleared up and if it doesn't get a lot better in two weeks then ask if you can take the 200mg ketoconizole pills one a day for two or three weeks. After you get it looking better then use keep using a dandruff shampoo daily- either 1% ketoconizole or 1% zinc pyrithione shampoo- they can be alternated. It can be cleared and kept under control.
