Question
hello,
dr i'm chronic case of  seborrheic dermatitis. i have it for two years. it is affecting my life very negatively. dermatologist prescribed antifungal keto and zinc pyrithione lotions and steroid creams but they didn't helped me. Is there any effective way to cure it completely? my scalp sweats too much and it causes heavy itching. does shaving my head will help and taking antifungal medicines will avoid it's occurrence in future. i know i have so many questions but i'm very embarrassed.

Answer
Seborrheic Dermatitis is a chronic condition which can be controlled with treatment. You have already been prescribed the most common treatments. Perhaps you didn't shampoo frequently enough or apply the lotions often enough to kill the yeast that causes the problem. If you did shampoo and apply the lotions daily with no benefit I'd suggest you ask your doctor to prescribe a ketoconizole 200mg pill to take daily for three weeks.

There are several places to get more good information on the treatment of Seborrheic Dermatitis. Here are two good sites:

"Ketoconazole 200mg daily for 4 weeks was tried in 19 patients in a randomized, double- blind, placebo-controlled study; active treatment resulted in significant improvement.["
