About Kimberly Belk
Expertise
As a registered nurse, I can help you understand the type of hair loss you suffer and the goals of your physician`s treatment plan. As someone who suffers alopecia, I can explain treatment options and coping with the disease. Part of coping with hair loss is finding ways to "look natural", and as the owner of Belk Wigs, I can recommend several different types of hair replacement options based on the specific needs you may have related to your particular type of hair loss.

Hair Loss - Blocking DHT

Expert: Kimberly Belk - 10/8/2006

Question
I am 18 years old male, suffering from hair loss, my dad is bald, i am now on minoxidil 5%, i want to take dht blockers, so i decided to take this (saw palmetto berry extract 150 mg, pygeum extract 54 mg, stinging nettle extract 10 mg, zinc gluconate 35 mg). does long term use of this dht blockers means lower testosterone in the body ? or lower fertility of sperms ? will it help fighting hair loss ?

thx

Answer
Hi Hany,

DHT blockers may cause the problems you mentioned, and the bottom line is your genetic makeup is what it is. You can't change what nature gave you, but using the Minoxidil will help. You can also use Nioxin Shampoo available from your stylist, or Nutri-Ox available at Sally Beauty Supply Company stores.

Thank you for your question.

Take care and God Bless,
Kimberly Belk
