Hair Loss/hair replacement surgery: best option??

Question
Is hair replacement surgery the best option for a bald person?  Does hair replacement surgery actually work?  will the new hair also be affected by DHT? if it comes from the back of the head it should not be affected by DHT, right?

I've been told that taking hair from the back of the scalp and placing it on the bald area, is the best way to cure baldness, cause it actually works.  This is true right?  if not, is there any hope for bald men in the future?

Answer
Hi Naroslav,

Hair replacement surgery has been an effective treatment for some bald men.  I am not able to answer if the grafts are affected by DHT if the hair comes from the back of your hand or not; you will need to ask a hair transplant surgeon that question. Most transplant grafts are taken from the back of the head and that will leave scars in that area. If you continue to lose hair, the scars may become visible after several years, and this is something you will need to consider.

There are many different treatments available for hair loss, and what works for some does not work for others. If a transplant is not something you wish to do, then you always have the option of using a hairpiece.

Thank you for your questions.

Take care and God Bless,

As a registered nurse, I can help you understand the type of hair loss you suffer and the goals of your physician`s treatment plan. As someone who suffers alopecia, I can explain treatment options and coping with the disease. Part of coping with hair loss is finding ways to "look natural", and as the owner of Belk Wigs, I can recommend several different types of hair replacement options based on the specific needs you may have related to your particular type of hair loss.
