Hair Loss - Exposed hair follicles!

Expert: Peter J. Panagotacos, M.D. - 10/5/2006

Question
my hair follicles in eyebrows are becoming exposed this wouldnt be a problem except that these hairs tend to fall out pretty quickly - what can be causing this to happen.

Answer
I am not sure I understand what you mean by exposed hair follicles. In any case you should see a dermatologist so the skin and eyebrow hairs can be examined to find out what is causing this. There a several different diseases which can cause the hair follicles to fall out quickly and a dermatologist is best able to diagnose that for you after seeing you in the office. It could be alopecia areata, lichen plano-pilaris, a thyroid problem or an infection.
