Hair Loss - Gene's

Expert: Peter J. Panagotacos, M.D. - 10/10/2006

Question
Hi, i was wondering my dad and all the boy's on his side were mostly bald at a young age around early 20's. I have heard that it is on your mother's side and is your grandfather is this true? He's bald now but had hair until he was eighty what is the chance i will be bald?

Answer
Getting baldness from your mother is not qite a myth but not entirely true. You inherit the bald genes from BOTH sides of your family. You can end up escaping all the bald genes or can end up with all of them depending on the chromosomes you happen to get from each parent. So you could be balder than anyone else or have more hair than anyone else in your family on either side.
