Question
Hello,I would appreciate any advice. I had breast cancer(double mastectomy in 1992). Doing fine, in 2003 and 2005 my ferritin level dropped to so low they couldn't beleive I was walking. They levels arewonderful now after iron injections. I am on a drug vytorin(zetia and Zocor) for my cholesteral. I noticed my hair is thinning on top and in the back, also very limp. Could this drug be causing this, What should I do? My Dr. says I can take Pravacol. I would appreciate any advice and what can I do till my hair comes in. Is biotin ok to take. Thank YOU Sue

Answer
Vytorin(zetia and Zocor) can cause hair loss.  The number one derm problem for this drug is hair loss.  You can try over the counter Rogaine for Women and see if this helps as this drug is supposed to help reverse hair loss.  If Rogaine does not help, you will have to go off of the Vytorin.  Crestor does not cause hair loss and it helps decrease cholesterol. The information presented is in Pnysicians' Desk REference which gives the side effects of almost all medications as well as the actions of the drug.
