I am taking the spironolactone and am working my way up to the 200mg for the very same thing. I've been on it two months now.
I have noticed that my scalp doesn't itch as much and that the hair loss has slowed down considerably. I remember when I turned 40 my eyesight just all of a sudden was affected almost over night it seemed, the eye dr told me that notable changes start right at that age. The meds have been helpful two fold for me since I have high blood pressure, so I'm getting help for two things with one med. I have noticed facial dryness, I drink plenty of water during the day up until about 8pm and then back off so that I'm not up at night. I use Nivea soft cream to moisturize with, I love it. The main reason I went with this med is because it has been on the market longer and is pretty well trusted. The new meds I'm leary of. I wish you lots of luck and would like to suggest to you to check out Hairmax, which you can find on line, laser hair treatment you do at home by just combing it thru your hair every other day. I saw a difference with my hair within a month of use, it is safe and you have 20 weeks to use it and check for results. My husband noticed and told me it is very worth it's price. ($500.) I am hoping to get off the meds at some point but until then, between the Hairmax and meds I'm very happy.
Good luck to you! I know exactly how you are feeling! Mohair

Propecia and Avodart are absolutely not recoomended for women. Ask your doctor about various birth control pills and check out minoxidil for women. Also you can have a blood test done rather cheaply to see if you any deficiencies.
