Question
my hair has been thinning that last 3 years, my dad has all of his har (alittle thing) but no bald spots but his dad (my grandfather) was bald at 40+, my mother dad had a full head of hais until he died. is there a way to gage how much more my hair will thin and if I start wearing a hat will that cause more hair loss? ...I heard a rumor that wearing hats alot will thin hair....what kind of treatments are out there...Erik

Answer
Hi Eric,

Hats can thin hair as it doesn't allow the scalp to breathe. If you have male pattern baldness in your genetic make-up, there is really nothing you can do to change that. There are many treatments out there, how they will or will not work for you will be trial and error, and a lot of expense possibly. You can try Rogaine or Propecia and see if that will do something for you.

Thank you for your question.

Take care and God Bless,

As a registered nurse, I can help you understand the type of hair loss you suffer and the goals of your physician`s treatment plan. As someone who suffers alopecia, I can explain treatment options and coping with the disease. Part of coping with hair loss is finding ways to "look natural", and as the owner of Belk Wigs, I can recommend several different types of hair replacement options based on the specific needs you may have related to your particular type of hair loss.
