Hair Loss - hairloss

Question
QUESTION: To whom it may concern,

I am a 44 year old lady suffering from hairloss.I have been seen by a gynaecologist who thinks my hairloss and menstural problems are related to hormone problems.  He is going to start me on Zoladex injections to switch off my ovaries and add back oestrogen using premarin.  Then in 12 months time if he sees a benefit will remove my ovaries. Do you think this combination of drugs will help my hairloss or aggrivate it and if it will aggrivate how long will it take to see negative effects or on the other hand positive effects.

Regards,

Julie

ANSWER: I do not know if this will help or hurt the hair loss. Your doctor should be in a better position to evaluate the problem with your ovaries and if they are producing the wrong hormones then removing then should help and afterwards being on estrogen is certainly something you will want. You may want to ask if you can take spironolactone 100 mg per day to block some of the male hormone from telling your hair to fall out.

QUESTION: I am not sure doing what the gynaecologist said would help me or would rather make my condition worse.  Do you think taking isoflavourines (natural oestrogens) could help me more and or could they cause hair to come out.  I am in such a dilemma.

Regards

Julie

Answer
I am sure your  doctor knows more about what is better for you than you guessing about taking some "natural" treatment. The years spent becoming an MD Gynecologist who can give you really expert advice is not something you should put on the same level as advice from some friend or salesman in an herbal remedy store. Keep your appointment with your doctor.
