Question QUESTION: This may be long, please bear with me. I decided I wanted to go blond last week. I have always been a dark to light brown but for several years now I have used Feria color in mahogony or another auburn. I used loreal color emover first to try to strip some of the color. Then it turned a very bright orange. So then I used Loreal Super blond, twice in the same day. I was left with bright yellow hair and very blond roots. Luckily I had an appointment with my stylist the next day. He did one round of bleach, left on or 25 minutes. No change. Then he tried some purple stuff left on for 10 minutes, still no change so he applied a toner. This cut the yellow but left me with ashy roots. Now my hair is still too yellow for my liking, I want a pale blond almost platinum color. What do I need to do? I am graduating college on Thursday and would like for my hair to be right by then. Someone suggested the purple shampoo, and I used it last night, and I was told to use it evryday until it reached my desired color. Will this work? Or do I need to tone? And in what color? I know I need a violet base. My stylist told me not to use anything with blue in it because my ends would turn blue. Why would this happen? My hair is still in pretty good shape considering. Its soft, shiny, but feels coarse and dry. My scalp is fine, I am surprised that with all my hair went through it is in such good shape. So basically I just want to know if the purple shampoo with work and when or do I need to tone? And could you recommend a good choice for toning.
Thank you very much
ANSWER: Cathy,
Firdt of all, over the previous colour you used, It's lucky that ti came up as light as is did. Don't expect any lighter for now. Purple shampoos counteract excess yellow, they do not lighten hais, so that will only make the lighter roots look ashier. Your only option right now is to settle for something that will cover the yellow ends, like a darker blonde. For safety sake I would suggest doing this with a colour refreshing shampoo or conditioner. They are available in golden glond shades and are totally safe. Then in a while, your hairdresser can further lift the ends that are still too dark, if you still want a pale blonde. Either way, I'd suggest forgetting about platinum for graduation, for the sake of your hair.
Best of luck to you.

QUESTION: Thank you for your time, just want to ask a queston about the blonde shampoos. I checked out some of them in my drug store and some have yellow and orange color in them. Some had violet I think. I think the John Freida had violet. Should I use the one with violet to cancel out the yellow in my hair? I certainly do not want to add more yellow or orange! Thank You very much for your time and help
Cathy
Answer Cathy,
As I mentioned before, since it does not lighten it can only cancel out just so much yellow, so no matter how many times you use it, it will not do what you are looking for. What you need to do for now is forget about a platinum or pale baige look and accept something like a golden blonde for the time being. Either that or risk serious damage if you try to lighten it more right now. Either way, violet shampoos will not give you your desired result. Sorry.
Best of luck to you.
