Question
First let me say that you are the Gospel of hair. I need to know if you could help me find a salon/ stylist that does Wave Nouveau in New York (the Bronx or Brooklyn)? I will be a first time user so could you give me any advice? I have been wearing micro-braids for years and just recently I had my hair relazed and it fell out. That was Jan 2008 and I have not had it retouched since. Any and all advice that you may be able to give me will be highly respected and appericated.

Answer
Tracey,
First of all, thank you for your kind words. They're aprecciated. Unfortunately I don't personally know stylists in Bronx or Brooklyn off the top of my head, but I usually make the same suggestion to most people in this instance. That is that when you see someone with good looking hair similar to what you're looking for, ask them where they get it done. They'll be flattered that you noticed and that you asked. You're likely to hear the same salon or stylist name poppoing up again and again, and that will give you your answer. Remember, that as stylists, referrals are the major part of our continued new business.
Now, on to your hair. I'm always disturbed when I hear stories of clients having less than satisfactory results from a salon, since I'm always stressing the importance of professional sevices above home services. It should not happen as much as it seems to. I hope you're continuing to condition on a regular basis, with a good moisturizing conditioner to keep the hair soft. Since a Wave Nouveau can not go over a relaxer, you would have to wait for the relaxer to totally grow out and be cut off before the Wave can be applied. The two chemistries are not at all compatible abd placing one over the other will cause serious damage, no matter how adept or knowledgeable the stylist. It's just the chemistry of the products. Since hair grows about 3/8 to 1/2 inch a month, it would take about 6 months for 3 inches of hair to grow out and be cut off. 6 inches would take about a year. From this you can figure the approximate time frame, depending on your own hair length, or the hair length you want to have at the time of the service.
Best of luck to you.
