Expert: Hairman Date: 7/22/2008 Subject: Failed Perm...in one spot!
Question I got a perm 2 days ago and it took just as I had hoped except in one spot. The very front two curlers on top did not take. My hair had been colored about 2-3 months, but does not get dried at all. I also had not used conditioner in about 1-2 months. The underneath of my hair is straight and the top layers are curly. After the 1 spot did not take, I went back that afternoon and they repermed the front two curlers only. They coated the roots of the surrounding hair with some kind of very thick cream to protect it from the solution. I was told not to wash it until today. Now the unpermed section has spread to the part that had cream on it and I cannot get all of the cream out of my hair even with washing it.
They have offered to reperm my whole head in 2.5 weeks (which is 2 days before a wedding I am in). What are your recommendations?
Answer Shanle,
I would allow them to still fix it for you. First things first, though. To get rid of the cream, just apply some shampoo to the dry hair and work into a lather and then rinse. That will do it. Once anything greasy gets wet it won't be removed, so applying the shampoo to dry hair is a must.
Now for the eprm repair. What they need to do, instead of protecting the hair not getting permed. like they did, because it still usually gets affected, is to wrap what needs to be permed along with a few other rods around that area, then wrap the perimeter well with absorbent cotton. They will just apply the lotion carefully to the rods that need, leaving the other rods unstaurated. If the surrounding hair does get some lotion on it, no matter, as it's wrapped so the curl will not be harmed.
Best of luck to you.
