Question Hi,
I'm hoping you can help me! My hair is naturally an ash brown color. It's down to mid back length. I've been dying my hair auburn for about three years now with store bought hair color (about once every 6 months)- specifically L'Oreal Excellence Creme Haircolor, Light Auburn 6R.
My natural roots have grown out about 1 1/2 inches so far - so I have 1 1/2 inches of straight ash brown and the rest is somewhat faded auburn.
I would like to get back to my natural haircolor and I know this requires stripping. But can I dye an ash brown and get straight brown or is it just going to be auburn with more brown? I don't have the money to go to a salon so I would have to buy products at a store.
Should I just let it fade and add highlights from the roots to try to blend the two colors together? I don't know what to do.
Thanks!
Heather
Answer Heather,
Hair colour only has to be "stripped" or lifted out if t is darker than your natural colour or the colour that you want it to be. In this case it is already lighter than you want so there would be no need to lift first. It may need some repigmentizing first so that it will accept the new colour properly, and this should be done professionally. Also, thoe best way to colour the hair in this situation is with a non ammonia colour, as it will deposit the new colour with no damage.
If a have misunderstood, and the auburn is darker than your natural brown, it would indeed need to be lifted first. This should also be done professioanally, as too much can go wrong at home.
As for the highlights, I would only consider that an option if you wanted highlights anyway. Otherwise you're stuck with growing them out for about 2 years or more. Hair only grows about 6 inches a year.
Best of luck to you.
